I recently attended my first Naked Lady Party (aka clothing exchange), and it was awesome! I ran into an old friend from high school a few months ago, and she showed up at my front door the other day with an invitation to a Naked Lady Party. The invitation read, "Bring the jewelry, clothes, and shoes you no longer wear. Find a new Valentine's Day outfit!"
I have not been to a girl's night out party since my daughter was born, and I was looking forward to it all week. I dug through my donation box and did a quick sweep of my closet the night before the party. I came up with a pink flower dress from my college graduation, a brand new (with tags) full-length red dress (that I have never had an occasion to wear in the past five years), a red purse, a pair of clunky Simple shoes, and a few tops.
When I arrived, my friend had labeled parts of the room for "tops," "sweaters," "dresses," "bags," "shoes," and "pants." There was a beautiful spread of cheese, crackers, sangria, and sparkling lemonade. It didn't take long for ladies to start filing in with their bags of stuff and spreading it out. Pretty soon we were all trying on clothes, laughing, and making comments about how crazy we women could be.
As it turned out, I knew no one else beside my friend the hostess. I met lots of interesting women. We talked about work, running, new restaurants in town, and mutual friends. Some of us exchanged phone numbers and email addresses. It was a great way to meet new people, try on some fun clothes, and get a few "new" pieces for my wardrobe. My friend suggested we make the Naked Lady Party a semi-annual tradition, and we all agreed that was a great idea.
Have you ever attended a Naked Lady Party?
